Being the first in your family to navigate college—and your future career—can feel exciting and overwhelming all at once. This interactive 2 hour workshop is designed specifically for first-generation college students who want to take charge of their professional journey from day one. We’ll break down the career development process into clear, manageable steps so you can explore options, build skills, and make informed decisions. You’ll learn what a career development plan is, when and how to start one, and which actions you can take right now—even as a freshman—to set yourself up for future success. We’ll explore ways to discover career paths that align with your interests and major, understand what employers look for in graduates, and demystify the internship process. You’ll also gain strategies to research salaries, job responsibilities, and growth outlook, as well as practical tips for building a network (even if you don’t know where to start). A special feature of this session: you’ll connect directly with first-gen upperclassmen, alumni, and employers who will be on hand to answer your questions, share their career journeys, and offer practical guidance tailored to your goals. Come ready to explore, plan, and leave with a set of concrete next steps you can start immediately.
