KSU has used, or intends to use, at least 50% of the funds received under section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide HEER Funded KSU CARES Grants to students.

  • The total amount of HEER funding that KSU received to distribute to students is $9,653,622.
  • The total amount of HEER funded KSU CARES Grants that have been distributed to KSU students as of May 7, 2020 is $5,518,900.
  • The estimated total number of KSU students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and therefore eligible to receive an Emergency CARES Grant is 20,694.
  • The total number of students who have received a KSU CARES Grant is 4,584.

To be eligible for a HEER funded KSU CARES Grant a student must:

  2. Be enrolled in the current term in a KSU degree or certificate granting program
  3. Not be enrolled in an online program
  4. Complete a FAFSA for the current aid year AND:
    • Had federal Title IV aid  disbursed (paid) from one or more fund in the term being reviewed:
      • Federal Pell Grant
      • Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant
      • Federal TEACH Grant
      • Federal Iraq/Afghanistan Grant
      • Federal Work Study
      • Federal Direct Loan Student Loan
      • Federal Direct PLUS Loan
      • Federal Direct Grad PLUS Loan - OR-
    • Was offered federal Title IV aid, student declined or did not accept, and is still eligible to receive that aid for the current term.
  5.  Request funding for an eligible HEER funded KSU CARES Grant reason.
    • Cannot afford rent, food, or utilities this month
    • Emergency transportation costs
    • Car repairs they cannot afford, for reasons that began after March 13, 2020
    • Unexpected childcare expenses
    • Books, other course-required supplies, or technology required for online coursework
    • Unexpected medical expenses related to COVID-19

KSU CARES Grant Award Determination

The maximum HEER funded KSU CARES Grant award made to a student is based on the requested amount and the student鈥檚 Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the current aid year FAFSA.
